The six single-mode fibers (G.652.D) are typically arranged in a loose tube or tight buffer construction, with each fiber individually colored for identification (blue, orange, green, brown, slate, white). The loose tube design allows fibers to move independently within a gel-filled or dry tube, providing protection against stress and moisture. The tight buffer design offers a smaller diameter and easier connectorization, suitable for shorter runs and indoor applications. The cable includes a central strength member (steel or FRP) surrounded by water-blocking yarns, with a corrugated steel tape armor option for direct burial or rodent-prone areas. The 1 km length is suitable for MDU risers, campus backbone segments, and neighborhood distribution where multiple splits or service types (data, video, voice) are deployed on separate fibers.
