Heavy Cable Stripper/Knife

This heavy-duty cable stripping tool is designed for large-diameter fiber optic cables (15–35 mm) such as DSS armored cables, ADSS aerial cables, riser cables, and power cables. The robust construction features a ratcheting or lever-action mechanism that clamps onto the cable and provides mechanical advantage for cutting through tough jackets—including steel tape armor, corrugated aluminum, and thick polyethylene sheaths. The replaceable blade (carbide or hardened steel) can be set to precise cutting depths, with a carbide blade recommended for cables with embedded armor or glass-reinforced plastic strength members. The tool can perform both ring cuts (to remove a section of jacket) and slits (to open the jacket longitudinally). For large outside plant cables, the tool can be used to score the jacket, after which the jacket is split using the integrated hook blade. This tool is essential for splicing crews, outside plant engineers, and power utility technicians working with large-gauge fiber and hybrid cables.

  • Cable Diameter: 15–35 mm (fits large outside plant cables, ADSS, DSS armored)
  • Blade Type: Replaceable carbide (65–70 HRC) or hardened steel (58–60 HRC)
  • Cut Type: Ring and slit (longitudinal) — tool flips between modes
  • Mechanism: Ratcheting clamp (adjustable jaw) or lever-action scissor type
  • Application: DSS cables, ADSS, power cables, riser cables, OPGW, submarine cable terminations
  • Material: Glass-filled nylon body with steel ratchet components
  • Weight: 250–400g (heavier for stability on tough jackets)
  • Blade Life: 200–500 cuts on armored cable (carbide recommended for armor)
