Visual fault locator (VFL) in pen form factor—a portable, battery-powered red laser source for identifying breaks, severe bends, and connector faults in fiber optic cables. The 650nm (red) wavelength is highly visible through most cable jackets (especially yellow or white jackets) and will leak light at the point of a break, crack, or sharp bend. The output power ranges from 1 mW (basic, short range) to 10 mW (longer range, brighter glow), with a visible range of 5–10 km in dark conditions (the laser travels through the fiber, but light leakage is visible only near the fault). The pen body includes a universal 2.5mm connector interface (accepts SC, FC, ST adapters) and a continuous wave (CW) or blinking mode (2Hz blinking is easier to locate in bright conditions). The VFL is powered by 2x AAA batteries (included in the handle), providing hours of continuous operation. This tool is indispensable for field technicians troubleshooting breaks or verifying fiber continuity before OTDR testing.
